The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is one of 58 county offices located throughout the state. Approximately 650 regular and more than 950 temporary and substitute SCOE staff work year-round providing services that complement and supplement those offered by public school districts in Sacramento County.
Classified Employees of the Month Team
Linda Ponce, a school registrar, was nominated by Principal Joe Petterle, Ed.D., for her contributions to the Sacramento County Office of Education. Ms. Ponce supports the educational programs of Elinor Lincoln Hickey Jr.-Sr. High School, North Area Community School, and Day Reporting Center by enrolling students, maintaining the census, updating academic behavioral and attendance records for all students, and coordinating the return of students with the sending districts. Ms. Ponce's supervisor commends her "outstanding work ethic" and notes that she is "energetic, highly competent, works well with students and parents, and is genuinely concerned about students." Ms. Ponce has provided great assistance in the recent transition to the new E. L. Hickey School site, and in the development of the LINKS program. In addition to being an active participant in on-site initiatives, she is a dedicated team player and has served a number of years as a member of the planning committee for SCOE's annual Employee Recognition Day. Ms. Ponce has been employed by the Sacramento County Office of Education since February 1975.
Don Pope, a financial analyst, was nominated by District Fiscal Services Coordinator Debbie Wilkins for his contributions to SCOE. As a financial analyst with District Fiscal Services, Mr. Pope's primary responsibility is reviewing the fiscal health of school districts in the county during budget and interim reviews. In addition, he provides assistance to all districts in areas related to school finance. His supervisor says, "Don always responds to district's requests for assistance in a timely manner and always goes the extra mile to provide the information requested." One of SCOE's school district clients reports that Mr. Pope consistently provides helpful, friendly and patient assistance, and that he always has a "smile in his voice." Mr. Pope has been employed by the Sacramento County Office of Education since November 1988.
Certificated Employee of the Month
Adrian Brown, a school counselor with SCOE's Community Schools program, was nominated by Principal Joe Petterle, Ed.D., for her contributions to SCOE. Ms. Brown serves students enrolled in Elinor Lincoln Hickey Jr.-Sr. High School, North Area Community School, and Regional Occupational Program classes. In her work as a school counselor, Ms. Brown helps students achieve success. She says, "My job is to do everything possible to provide students the best opportunity to succeed when they return to their home school." Her commitment and dedication to fulfilling all dimensions of her counseling assignment are evident, says her supervisor. "Adrian is extremely conscientious and has played a major role in developing the LINKS program. She is a friendly, vivacious, talented and hard-working employee who takes her responsibilities for student welfare very seriously." Ms. Brown has been employed by the Sacramento County Office of Education since January 2005.
