Certificated Employee of the Month
Joseph Clark, a Regional Occupational Program teacher, was nominated by Principal Philip Moore for his contributions to the Community Schools Program of the Sacramento County Office of Education. Mr. Clark works with at-risk students in grades 9-12 at SCOE's new Marian Anderson LINKS Academy campus. In his ROP (Regional Occupational Program) Multimedia Sound Engineering class, Mr. Clark engages students by providing hands-on experiences in recording, synchronizing, mixing and reproducing music, voices and sound effects. He built a "sound studio" in his classroom to allow students real-world experience. His program gives students a platform for success and positive achievement. His supervisor says, "Joe's Multimedia Sound Engineering class is cited by many students as the reason they come to school. His understanding of and the implementation of the LINKS philosophy is key to student achievement in his class." In addition to teaching the highly technical subject of sound engineering, Mr. Clark works with groups of students in areas of career exploration and work preparation practices such as developing resumes and completing job applications. Concludes his supervisor, "Joe is one of those rare individuals who truly enjoys his work and the creative process of offering new and interesting opportunities to our students." Mr. Clark has been a Sacramento County Office of Education employee since October 2009.
