The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is one of 58 county offices located throughout the state. Approximately 650 regular and more than 950 temporary and substitute SCOE staff work year-round providing services which complement and supplement those offered by public school districts in Sacramento County.
Classified Employee of the Month
Kelly Findlay, Program Analyst, School of Education, was nominated for classified employee of the month while working as a Payroll Analyst (until July 25) by Sherry Hansen, Coordinator of Information and Compensation Services. While serving as Payroll Analyst, Ms. Findlay’s main function was to process, audit and maintain payroll for SCOE employees. She was required to stay current on tax law, STRS and PERS retirement system rules and reporting requirements, and SCOE internal pay policies. When the Payroll Department had a major research project, Ms. Findlay was willing to step out of her normal role and dive in with energy and determination. Ms. Findlay also lent a hand to colleagues on the benefits side of the payroll team whenever needed. She is extremely driven to do the best job she can do and always looking for new challenges, new things to learn, and new ways to assist others. In her current position (Program Analyst), she provides data and technical support for the School of Education. Ms. Findlay had been a SCOE employee since 2015.
Certificated Employee of the Month
Bill Garvey, Teacher, Gerber Jr./Sr. High School, was nominated by Principal Lisa Alcala for his contributions to the Sacramento County Office of Education. Mr. Garvey is innovative in his teaching practices. He realizes that SCOE students need something different from the norm to help them be engaged or re-engage in their education. He has a calm demeanor and this helps reduce the anxiety and intensity of the students, creating a better learning environment. /*Mr. Garvey has embraced the concept of project-based learning and makes learning interactive. Mr. Garvey has been a Sacramento County Office of Education employee since 2013.
