The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is one of 58 county offices located throughout the state. Approximately 650 regular and more than 950 temporary and substitute SCOE staff work year-round providing services that complement and supplement those offered by public school districts in Sacramento County.
Classified Employee of the Month
Heather McTighe, Transition Specialist, was nominated by Court and Community Schools Director Chris Aland. Ms. McTighe is in her first year as a Transition Specialist for the Gerber Senior Extension Program. She works closely to support students with her keen ability to maintain a calm and patient presence in which she addresses each student’s physical and emotional needs. She is always encouraging students by celebrating their little successes. She shows an interest in their passions and inspires them to continue their educational journey toward community college or a job. She supports some of the most challenging students in our county, which is a testament to her drive to change students’ lives. Ms. McTighe has been a SCOE employee since 2017.
Certificated Employee of the Month
Cindy Tanaka, Counselor, was nominated by Court and Community Schools Director Chris Aland. She serves as a Counselor at both Gerber Jr./Sr. High School and El Centro Jr./Sr. High School. She keenly understands the struggles our students face and the emotional trauma they may be under. She has a meticulous eye for detail and works collaboratively with students reviewing their best path to graduation. The relationships she creates with students are the foundation to guiding them on a positive track. Ms. Tanaka has been a SCOE employee since 1998 and was named SCOE’s Certificated Employee of the Month in January 2002, November 2011, and January 2013.
