The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is one of 58 county offices located throughout the state. Approximately 650 regular and more than 950 temporary and substitute SCOE staff work year-round providing services that complement and supplement those offered by public school districts in Sacramento County. The Sacramento County Board of Education celebrates the accomplishments and exemplary service of SCOE employees through the Employees of the Month Program.
Classified Employee of the Month
Laura Villanueva-Howes, a Speech, Language, Pathology Assistant, was nominated by Area Principal Kathy Johnson for her contributions to the overall success of the Special Education programs at various schools in central and southern Sacramento County. Villanueva-Howes supports communication services to students ages 3-22 with moderate to severe disabilities. Her dedication and commitment to serve goes beyond a job description. Villaneuva-Howes has the ability to accommodate ongoing caseload adjustments and program improvements. Her knowledge of best practices for communication instruction enhances her ability to provide students with quality opportunities to learn and demonstrate their abilities. Villaneuva-Howes’ natural ability to establish rapport and engage with students is an asset, along with her bilingual and technology skillset. Laura Villaneuva-Howes has been a SCOE employee since 2014.
Certificated Employee of the Month
Krista Solway, a Language, Speech, and Hearing Therapist, was nominated by Area Principal Erik Crawford for her contributions to the moderate/severe special education programs with the Sacramento County Office of Education at various sites and Galt High School. Solway provides speech and language services to students from preschool through 22 years of age. She makes positive contributions to her team and in the lives of her students. Solway is extremely organized and efficient in her work, which allows her to assist many students and staff members simultaneously. Solways’ contributions to SCOE go beyond her daily duties. She participated in the development of a California Alternate Language Survey pilot assessment for English-language learners. Solway volunteers at the UOP Speech Department’s Augmentative, Alternative Communication summer camp. Krista Solway has been a SCOE employee since 2019.
