The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is one of 58 county offices located throughout the state. Approximately 650 regular and more than 950 temporary and substitute SCOE staff work year-round providing services that complement and supplement those offered by public school districts in Sacramento County. The Sacramento County Board of Education celebrates the accomplishments and exemplary service of SCOE employees through the Employees of the Month Program.
Classified Employee of the Month
Tina Engwis, a School Secretary for Court and Community Schools, was nominated by Principal Barbara Modlin for her many contributions to SCOE. Engwis does a wonderful job as the El Centro school secretary. Her impact has been profound since joining SCOE in 2022. Diligently fulfilling her job duties, Engwis goes above and beyond, elevating each day. Her dedication, compassion, and unwavering support for colleagues and students make her invaluable. Engwis’s exceptional organizational skills and warm demeanor create an inviting atmosphere for all. She exemplifies the core values of teamwork, reliability, and dedication, making her the ideal recipient of the Classified Employee of the Month award. Her contributions and commitment inspire others, fostering a positive work environment and enhancing our collective success. Tina Engwis has been a SCOE employee since August 2022.
Certificated Employee of the Month
Allen Walsh, a Foundations Academy teacher, was nominated by Area Principal Guy Holman. Walsh is the teacher of the Young Adult Transition Program at Galt High School where he has developed an exceptional program that focuses on functional academics, daily living skills, community-based instruction, and vocational training through the Workability program—all with the purpose of helping his students become the best versions of themselves as full participants in their community. Walsh has a passion for teaching and is devoted to providing quality activities that reflect his students’ interests and abilities. He constantly strives for active student engagement and adjusts his instruction and strategies to meet the specific needs of his students to promote improved outcomes. He is proficient at building positive relationships with families, related service providers, campus faculty, as well as his own instructional team. His coworkers respect him and have shared their gratitude for Walsh’s consistent leadership in the classroom. His supervisor has expressed being incredibly impressed with his “can-do” attitude, his professionalism, flexibility, and patience, but most importantly, his commitment to his students. Walsh strives to give his students a voice in their education, respecting the fact that they are adults and want to be in charge of their lives. He is constantly challenging them towards self-advocacy and greater levels of independence while providing students with genuine care and support for success. It is with great honor and respect that he is recommended as the September Certificated Employee of the Month. Allen Walsh has been a SCOE employee since July 2008.
