Board Recognizes January 2024 Employees of the Month

January 2024 Classified Employee of the Month Marina Miller and Certificated Employee of the Month Barbara Fraijo were recognized by the County Board of Education. 

The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is one of 58 county offices located throughout the state. Approximately 650 regular and more than 950 temporary and substitute SCOE staff work year-round providing services that complement and supplement those offered by public school districts in Sacramento County. The Sacramento County Board of Education celebrates the accomplishments and exemplary service of SCOE employees through the Employees of the Month Program.

Classified Employee of the Month

Marina Miller, Program Analyst with Curriculum and Instruction was nominated by Executive Director, District and School Support, Channa Cook and California Dyslexia Initiative (CDI) Director, Tami Wilson. Marina’s supervisors have shared that, “Marina has a positive, can-do attitude in her support of the many programs and projects that she is involved in. Most of these projects are statewide initiatives that put SCOE in a highly visible environment, and Marina always ensures that we shine. Marina supports the work by ensuring that the day-to-day fiscal duties are handled, she provides exemplary service to support participants and outside vendors, supports hosting in-person and Zoom professional learning opportunities for statewide events. Marina communicates with stakeholders from across the state in the various projects, including teachers, administrators, community members, and other education agencies. She is always clear, positive, and professional.

Marina is a team player and is always willing to pitch in and provide help and support with projects and services that are not part of her main tasks. One example is her support of the new countywide initiative, Sacramento County READS. Sacramento County READS is a highly visible SCOE initiative that is attended by each district in our county, community members, and SCOE Board members. Marina has handled the logistics, registration and communication with participants, and been on-site to ensure that the first two community of practice sessions were well-run, professional, and provided a quality event for participants.” Marina Miller has been a SCOE employee since September 2019.   

Certificated Employee of the Month

Barbara Fraijo, Teacher Alternative Education at Cordova Lane in the Senior Extension Program was nominated by Court & Community Schools Principal, Craig Bradford.  Barbara has an exceptional ability for connecting with students by taking time to listen and develop a personal stake in their passions. She encourages students to continue their educational journey toward community college or to enter the workforce. Barbara goes above and beyond to ensure every student has a chance to succeed. She has taken a leadership role in the development of our new literacy curriculum to help our students grow as readers.  Barbara has also taken the role of Teacher-in-Charge to help guide and mentor our Senior Extension staff. Barbara has worked in most of our SCOE settings and has been a CARE teacher, a Community School teacher and an El Centro teacher.  Barbara Fraijo has been a SCOE employee since January 2020.
