The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is one of 58 county offices located throughout the state. Approximately 650 regular and more than 950 temporary and substitute SCOE staff work year-round providing services that complement and supplement those offered by public school districts in Sacramento County. The Sacramento County Board of Education celebrates the accomplishments and exemplary service of SCOE employees through the Employees of the Month Program.
Classified Employee of the Month
Michael Pierce, a Multimedia Design Specialist for the Outreach and Technical Assistance Network (OTAN) within SCOE’s Adult Education Department, was nominated by SCOE Director of Adult Education, Renee Collins, for his excellence and leadership in creating websites and multimedia content with a focus on accessibility compliance. Michael develops visually appealing, engaging, and user-friendly content that meets all accessibility standards and guidelines. He has been instrumental in promoting and implementing an accessibility-first design approach within the department. He collaborates closely with his coworkers to integrate accessibility into all content creation, providing guidance and sharing his expertise. Michael is passionate about ensuring that digital content is inclusive and useable by all the teachers, administrators, and students who use the websites and media in OTAN’s portfolio. Michael Pierce has been a SCOE employee since 2016.
Certificated Employee of the Month
Rebecca Barone, Language, Speech and Hearing Therapist in the Infant Development Program was nominated by Area Principal, Special Education, Randy Olson for her incredible efforts of support for the families she serves as well as her Prairie colleagues. Rebecca is praised for her exemplary work by her colleagues. She is always looking to grow professionally, including incorporating new technology into her work to the direct benefit of her families and team. Rebecca will seek feedback from her peers to identify needs to tailor specifically designed supports. Rebecca’s support even reaches beyond SCOE. Recently, Rebecca helped to organize support for the teachers and staff at her child’s school when tragedy struck unexpectedly. Due to Rebecca’s efforts, the staff received coffee and pastries as a show of parental support, compassion, and empathy. Rebecca Barone has been a SCOE employee since 2017.
