Board Recognizes January 2025 Employees of the Month

January 2025 Classified Employee of the Month Devon Nevarez and Certificated Employee of the Month Daniel Appel-Boarman were recognized by the County Board of Education.

The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is one of 58 county offices located throughout the state. Approximately 650 regular and more than 950 temporary and substitute SCOE staff work year-round providing services that complement and supplement those offered by public school districts in Sacramento County. The Sacramento County Board of Education celebrates the accomplishments and exemplary service of SCOE employees through the Employees of the Month Program.

Classified Employee of the Month

Devon Nevarez, Staff Secretary with Special Education, was nominated by Area Principal, Jillian Friend. Devon is such an amazing secretary! She has been in this position for the last few years and she has quickly developed a great skill set. She comes to this job with over a decade of experience as a Paraeducator in our Foundations Academy programs, which has proven to be extremely helpful in this position. She builds great relationships with students, staff, and families. She is willing to ask for help when needed and is very conscientious and eager to improve her skills, so that our overall program benefits. She anticipates things that may come up, so she can take a proactive approach. Devon Nevarez has been a SCOE employee since 2001.

Certificated Employee of the Month

Daniel Appel-Boarman, Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Specialist with Special Education, was nominated by Area Principal, Guy Holman. As an O&M Specialist, Daniel serves students with visual impairments in our Foundations programs as well as in district programs. Daniel establishes and maintains positive relationships with students, families, and coworkers/colleagues. He demonstrates excellent skills in designing O&M sessions that meet the individual needs of his students that are developmentally and age appropriate. Daniel adapts his approach to sessions based on observational assessments as well as the cultural and emotional needs of his students. He utilizes a variety of prompts and verbal cues to engage students, and promotes student self-correction and independence. He sets an example for students by modeling proper social behavior and interpersonal relationship skills. He effectively communicates with families, keeping them informed of their student's progress. It is a privilege to have Daniel as part of our SCOE vision team. Daniel Appel-Boarman has been a SCOE employee since 2018.
