AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) is an educational nonprofit that was established in 1980. It is a proven college-readiness system with a mission to close the opportunity gap for all students.
AVID accelerates student learning, uses research-based methods of effective instruction, provides meaningful and motivational professional learning, and acts as a catalyst for systemic reform and change.
AVID is implemented in approximately 7,5000 K-12 schools in 47 states across the US, plus schools in the Department of Defense Education Activity, Canada, and Australia. AVID trains over 85,000 educators and impacts 2 million students annually.
Success Rates
What differentiates the AVID College Readiness System from other educational reform efforts is its data collection and success rates. Capital Metro Area AVID (Region 3) reports show:
- 98.6% of the AVID Class of 2021 graduated high school
- 89% completed four-year college requirements
- 90.1% plan to attend a college or university after high school
