State Transformational Assistance Center (S-TAC)
The California Community Schools Partnership Program (CCSPP) is a California Department of Education (CDE) school improvement strategy that brings districts and schools together with teachers, students, families, and partners to address educational disparities and transform schools into hubs of opportunity and belonging. Community schools embrace shared power, strengthen classroom and community connections, and commit to continuous improvement. They create environments where students, educators, families, and communities can thrive together in racially just, relationship-centered spaces.
To lead this effort, CDE awarded a grant to the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) to operate the State Transformational Assistance Center (S-TAC), a statewide hub for technical assistance, building content, resources, and an overarching methodology to guide the implementation of community schools across California. Its role is to support a coherent, sustainable, and equitable vision of community schools by working in partnership with Regional Transformational Assistance Centers (R-TACs), grantees, and statewide partners.
S-TAC is working collaboratively to:
- Strengthen statewide capacity by supporting and partnering with the eight Regional Transformational Assistance Centers (R-TACs) to co-develop strategies, tools, and training.
- Coordinate learning and accountability by maintaining and administering the Annual Progress Report (APR) with input from R-TACs and grantees to capture shared progress and challenges.
- Partner with the S-TAC Advisory Board to co-create approaches for community school implementation, long-term sustainability, and alignment with other statewide initiatives.
- Develop and share resources by highlighting effective practices and lessons learned from schools, districts, and regions, ensuring broad access to practical tools and models.
- Engage interest holders through an annual, two-day summit that showcases promising practices, fosters cross-regional connections, and elevates community voices.
SCOE’s respected S-TAC partners—including Californians for Justice, the National Education Association, and the UCLA Center for Community Schooling—help ensure that diverse perspectives and expertise inform the statewide vision for community schools.
Please note that this program differs from SCOE’s Community School alternative education program for students who have been expelled or referred by Sacramento County Probation.
