Sacramento, CA—From her chambers, Chief Justice Patricia Guerrero recently named recipients of the 2023 Civic Learning Awards. The honor recognizes schoolwide achievements in civics and is co-sponsored by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond. Of the 33 schools honored in one of four categories, five are from Sacramento County.
Innovations Academy (Folsom Cordova Unified School District) earned a Civic Learning Award of Distinction. The award will be presented by a visiting judicial officer. Additional 2023 Civic Learning Awards from schools within Sacramento County include:

About the Civic Learning Award
The awards are designed to both celebrate successful efforts to engage students in civic learning and to identify successful models that can be replicated in other schools. The Civic Learning Award program has three levels: Awards of Excellence, Distinction, and Merit. Winners are selected by a panel of experts based on the depth and breadth of their civic learning classes, clubs, and programs.

The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE), plays a leadership role in the delivery of quality education to the students in Sacramento County, which is home to the California state capital comprising 1.4 million residents and seven cities. SCOE directly educates more than 30,000 children and adults each year—including thousands of district teachers who attend training sessions and workshops.
