Sacramento, CA—The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) will host education leaders from 19 countries on Friday, November 8, 2024, as part of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). The visit, titled “Education in the Digital Age II,” is coordinated by Global Ties Sacramento in partnership with the Meridian International Center and focuses on advancing technology in education. Delegates will meet with SCOE leaders, participate in presentations, and discuss best practices in digital learning and educational technology.

During their time at SCOE, the IVLP participants will attend a structured program that includes an overview of current educational technology trends, insights into SCOE’s efforts to support digital learning in rural schools, and strategies for successful partnerships between SCOE, educational institutions, and private or philanthropic organizations. Highlights of the visit will include:

  • Introductions and Presentation: Led by Jared Amalong, SCOE Director of Computer Science and Digital Learning, the program will open with introductions and a presentation on “Reimagining Computing Education in Sacramento County and Across California.”
  • Q&A and Participant Share-Out: Participants will discuss impactful educational technology trends, the benefits and challenges of digital learning, and examples of partnerships advancing educational technology in their respective countries.
  • Networking Lunch: A lunch session will allow delegates to share personal experiences on how technology has influenced their professional lives and educational landscapes.
  • Closing and Group Photo: The program will conclude with a group photo, symbolizing the collaborative spirit of this international exchange.

Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools David W. Gordon expressed excitement about the opportunity, stating, “It is a privilege to welcome international leaders to Sacramento and to share how we are leveraging technology to improve learning outcomes. This program underscores the value of global collaboration in addressing educational challenges and developing innovative solutions.”

About the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP)

The International Visitor Leadership Program is the U.S. Department of State’s flagship professional exchange program. Through short-term visits across the United States, IVLP connects current and emerging foreign leaders with their American counterparts to foster dialogue on key issues like education, innovation, and digital transformation. The IVLP is administered by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and implemented in partnership with organizations like Meridian International Center and Global Ties U.S.
