Sacramento County's 16 district Teachers of the Year 2001, including Sacramento County Teachers of the Year Craig Faniani and Michael Laharty, were honored at ARCO Arena Friday, February 2, 2001, during halftime of the Sacramento Kings vs. Vancouver Grizzlies game.

The Teachers of the Year were featured in a special halftime ceremony before a capacity Kings crowd of 17,317. Gavin Maloof of Maloof Sports and Entertainment, joined Dr. David P. Meaney, Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools, in greeting Teachers of the Year on the basketball court and presenting each teacher with a certificate of achievement.

The Sacramento Kings organization, which has presented Teacher Recognition Night for more than a decade, hosted each Teacher of the Year and his or her guest to a pre-game dinner in the ARCO Arena Skyline Lounge Restaurant. The Kings also supplied a pair of complimentary game tickets to each Teachers of the Year and provided specially priced tickets to more than 800 teachers, students and families.

"The Sacramento Kings are proud to team with the Sacramento County Office of Education and recognize the Teachers of the Year 2001 for their outstanding service and contributions to Sacramento's youth," said Rick Heron, Director of Community Service for Maloof Sports and Entertainment. "We join these teachers in the effort to make a positive and meaningful difference in the lives of families in Sacramento."
