Sacramento County's 13 district Teachers of the Year 2002, including Sacramento County Teachers of the Year Kathryn Allaman and Sheryl Sorensen, were honored at ARCO Arena Tuesday, February 19, 2002, during halftime of the Sacramento Kings vs. Atlanta Hawks game.

The Teachers of the Year were featured in a special halftime ceremony before a capacity Kings crowd of 17,317. Officials from Maloof Sports and Entertainment, and Teacher Appreciation Night sponsor NECA/IBEW, joined Dr. David P. Meaney, Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools, in greeting Teachers of the Year on the basketball court and presenting each with a certificate of achievement.

For more than a decade, the Sacramento Kings organization has supported recognition of the area’s top teachers. This year NECA-IBEW joined the effort and hosted the recognized teachers for dinner prior to their on-court presentation. NECA-IBEW is also making a financial contribution to each teacher’s school. In addition, Kings player Predrag "Peja" Stojakovic visited Sheryl Sorensen's class on January 29 and will be visiting Kathryn Allaman's class in late February.
