Trustees were sworn in and officers elected at the July 6, 2004 meeting of the Sacramento County Board of Education.
Elected President was Christopher W. Woods, who has served since July 2002 as Area 3 Trustee. Mr. Woods, a resident of Sacramento’s Arden-Arcade area, works as Chief Consultant for the California State Assembly Budget Committee. He succeeds outgoing Board President John C. Scribner, an Elk Grove resident who continues to serve as Area 6 Trustee. Mr. Woods was Board Vice President for the 2003-2004 term.
Harold Fong, newly elected Vice President, is a resident of Sacramento’s Pocket area. Mr. Fong has served since 2000 as Area 7 Trustee. His current term as Area 7 Trustee expires in June 2008. Mr. Fong works as a Program Consultant in the Primary and Rural Health Care System with the California Department of Health Services.
Taking oaths of office at the July 6 meeting were County School Board Trustees who have been re-elected to an additional four-year term of office: Victoria L. Deane (Area 4), Brian Cooley (Area 5), and Harold Fong (Area 7), and John C. Scribner (Area 6). California State Assembly Member Darrell Steinberg administered the oath of office.
The offices of Board President and Vice President are held for one year. Trustees are elected for terms of four years. Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools David W. Gordon serves as Secretary to the Board of Education.
The Sacramento County Board of Education provides policy and oversight of programs of the Sacramento County Office of Education, as well as hearing student expulsion and interdistrict appeals and serving as the County Committee on School District Organization. Regular Board meetings for 2004–05 will be held on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month commencing in September 2004. In July and August 2004, Board meetings will continue as originally scheduled on first and third Tuesday evenings. Meetings ordinarily take place in the Board Room of the Sacramento County Office of Education David P. Meaney Education Center, 10474 Mather Boulevard, off Highway 50 in the former Mather Air Force Base.
