The Sacramento-area Emergency Housing Center (SAEHC) at the Mather Field campus was the site of a massive effort to reach out to hundreds of homeless and underprivileged families in the Sacramento County area.

The international organization "Feed the Children" and California First Lady Maria Shriver teamed up to help distribute 400 boxes of food, school supplies, hygiene products, and books.

The Sacramento County Office of Education operates Project TEACH, which serves hundreds of children in Sacramento County each year by providing services to help homeless and underprivileged children get the educational services that they need.

"We are grateful for the First Lady's efforts to shine a light on those programs dedicated to helping underprivileged children and their families," Superintendent Gordon said.

The mission of "Feed the Children" is to deliver food, medicine, clothing, and other necessities to families affected by famine, war, poverty, and natural disaster.

The mission of Project TEACH is to provide services to help children enroll and succeed in school.
