SCOE Teacher of the Year 2006 Cathy Goodrich celebrates with Maria, one of her students.

Young adults with disabilities held a celebration on January 23, to honor their teacher at Galt High School. Cathy Goodrich has been named the Sacramento County Office of Education Teacher of the Year 2006.

Approximately a dozen students enjoyed an ice cream party and participated in a unique "show and tell" — their teacher showed the class her Teacher of the Year award and told of receiving the award. To commemorate the occasion, the Sacramento Kings provided small keepsake items for the students to enjoy.

"Cathy Goodrich is a once-in-a-lifetime teacher," said parent Rosemary Wold. "The time she takes with the individual students, as well as with the entire class, is phenomenal." Rosemary Wold commended Cathy Goodrich for helping her son reach ambitious goals. "They couldn't have picked a better person," she concluded.

Cathy Goodrich, along with all the Teachers of the Year 2006 in Sacramento County, will be recognized on February 5, 2006, during halftime of the Sacramento Kings vs. Utah Jazz game at ARCO Arena.

Cathy Goodrich teaches at the Galt High School campus. Galt's young adult SH (severely handicapped) classes are operated by the Special Education Department of the Sacramento County Office of Education.

Cathy Goodrich, a resident of Elk Grove, is one of 16 educators selected as Teachers of the Year 2006 by school districts in Sacramento County.
