Voters to Consider Proposal to Unify the Del Paso Heights, Grant, North Sacramento, and Rio Linda School Districts and to Elect Governing Board Members for the Proposed Unified School District
On November 6, 2007, voters who reside in the Grant Joint Union High School District (GJUHSD), including its five elementary feeder districts (Del Paso Heights, Elverta, North Sacramento, Rio Linda, and Robla) will vote on a proposal to unify the Del Paso Heights, Grant, North Sacramento, and Rio Linda districts into a single, K-12, unified school district.
The Elverta and Robla school districts are not included in the unification proposal. If the proposal passes, those two school districts would remain independent districts that would send their secondary students to the new unified district the same way they currently send secondary students to the GJUHSD.
The unification proposal was initiated by resolutions from the governing boards of the four districts that would unify. Following a series of public hearings in the districts, the Sacramento County Committee on School District Organization voted to recommend to the State Board of Education (SBE) that it approve the proposal. Subsequently, following a public hearing, the SBE approved the proposal sending it to the voters.
If the unification proposal is approved by the voters in November, the new district would become effective on July 1, 2008. It would be governed by a seven-member board whose members will be elected on November 6, 2007. Seven trustee areas have been established for the proposed district, and one board member will be elected from each trustee area by all of the voters in the district.
