Drivers and their passengers passing through local campuses for the next few weeks beware: students will be watching to make sure you are obeying the law.
During the month of April, students from 22 Sacramento County high schools and middle schools will survey drivers on school grounds as part of the "Click It Challenge". The friendly competition between schools is designed to raise awareness and promote seat belt use among students and adults both on and off school grounds.
The student-led project is a cooperation involving the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE), Friday Night LIVE/Club LIVE and the California Office of Traffic Safety.
Observation teams of students will conduct one announced and two unannounced seat belt surveys as students and adults either arrive on campus or leave campus. The schools with the highest percentage of increased seat belt usage will be the winners. Campaign winners will be announced at the annual Friday Night LIVE/Club LIVE Mentoring Appreciation Event to be held May 8, 2008.
For more information on the "Click It Challenge," contact Joelle Orrock, Coordinator, Friday Night Live/Club Live: (916) 228-2418.
