The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is pleased to offer a special 2010 wall calendar featuring the art of Juvenile Court and Community Schools students.
ARTESCAPES includes work from students at SCOE Juvenile Court and Community School programs located throughout Sacramento County. The calendar measures 11¾" wide by 8¾" tall (closed); 11¾" wide by 17½" tall (open).
Each month displays a different piece of art, ranging from painting to pencil sketch, collage, and digitally produced art. Art selections featured in the calendar were nominated by teachers for SCOE's October 2009 ARTESCAPES student art show and reception, held in midtown Sacramento in conjunction with the popular "Second Saturday" art walk.
ARTESCAPES is available for $10 (plus $2 postage/$4 for more than three copies) from SCOE's Juvenile Court and Community Schools programs. Proceeds from calendar sales benefit Juvenile Court and Community Schools student arts.
The calendar project is just one of many arts education efforts organized for SCOE Juvenile Court and Community School students. The 2007 "Doorways to the Arts" professional development series introduced teachers and paraprofessional educators to California State Standards for arts instruction and helped them design arts activities for their students. Since then, students have learned and put into practice multiple arts techniques, participated in the "Poetry Out Loud" recitation contest, attended music and drama performances, and written their own lyrics in the local "Blues in the Schools" songwriting competition.
The ARTESCAPES Art Calendar was produced by the Sacramento County Office of Education with participation from Juvenile Court and Community Schools students, paraprofessional educators and teachers, and the SCOE Arts Executive Advisory Team.
