The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is pleased to offer a special 2011 desktop calendar featuring the unique art of students.
EXPRESSIONS 2011 is a full-color desk calendar that showcases paintings, sketches, collage and 3-D art by 17 SCOE students from Juvenile Court and Community School campuses throughout Sacramento County. The calendar is packaged in an acrylic stand (5" x 5½") for convenient and attractive display on a desktop or table.
The 20 works of art featured in the calendar were finalists from among more than 50 nominations submitted by SCOE teachers.
The EXPRESSIONS 2011 calendar is available for $8, plus $2 postage ($4 postage if ordering three or more calendars). Proceeds from calendar sales benefit arts education programs in SCOE Juvenile Court and Community Schools.
Checks should be made payable to SCOE and mailed with a completed order form to:

The calendar project is just one of many arts education efforts organized for SCOE Juvenile Court and Community Schools students. Through SCOE's "Doorways to the Arts" professional development series, launched in 2007, teachers and paraprofessional educators have designed their own California State Standards-based arts instruction lessons for their students. As students learn art techniques they are able to express themselves, their hopes, and ambitions, as well as actively participate in numerous arts-related opportunities.
Juvenile Court and Community Schools students select and memorize poems to compete in the national "Poetry Out Loud" recitation contest, attend music and drama performances, and write their own lyrics in the Sacramento Blues Society's "Blues in the Schools" songwriting competition. Public showings of their art have helped raise awareness of the valuable role that arts education plays in the development of the "whole" student. The students' 2010 art calendar, ARTESCAPES, was recognized by the California School Public Relations Association (CalSPRA) with a 2010 Excellence in Communication Competition Award of Merit.
The EXPRESSIONS calendar was produced by the Sacramento County Office of Education with the participation of Juvenile Court and Community Schools students, teachers, and paraprofessional educators.
