At its October 19 meeting, the Sacramento County Board of Education would welcome community input on how to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Area 4 Trustee Victoria L. Deane. Deane resigned from her post effective October 11, after moving out of the area she represented. She had served on the Board since 1992. Her term was scheduled to expire in June 2012.
Trustee Area 4 represents the following: communities of Orangevale, Citrus Heights, Fair Oaks, and a portion of Carmichael. School districts: a major portion of San Juan Unified and a small portion of Twin Rivers Unified.
According to the bylaws of the Sacramento County Board of Education, within 20 days of the effective date of the vacancy, the Board shall consider the matter of filling the vacancy. When a Board member resigns four or more months before the end of a County Board member's term, within 60 days of the effective date of resignation the Board shall either order an election or make a provisional appointment to fill the vacancy.
The Board must either order an election or make a provisional appointment to fill the vacancy by December 10, 2010. A special election could potentially cost between $400,000 and $600,000.
