County Superintendent Announces Appointment of New Assistant Superintendent

Mark Vigario to Oversee Educational Services, Early Childhood Education, and Foster Youth

Mark Vigario will serve as Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.

Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools David W. Gordon is announcing the appointment of a new Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services for the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE).

Mark Vigario previously served as the Director of Learning Support Services in the Elk Grove Unified School District. Prior to that appointment, he served as a teacher and principal for many years in Elk Grove. Vigario was recognized as Sacramento County Teacher of the Year in 1993.

As a principal, he was recognized for his ability to increase student achievement in Title I schools and schools with large populations of English Learners. "We are delighted to welcome Mark to our County Office team. He brings with him a wealth of leadership experience," said Superintendent Gordon. "Our County Board of Education and I look forward to working with him to deliver top-quality service to the students, families and staff of our local school districts, and especially to our early learners and foster youth."

Vigario holds a Masters Degree in Elementary Education from California State University, Sacramento, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of the Pacific. He assumed his new SCOE post beginning March 18. He replaces Assistant Superintendent Joyce Wright, who retired in December 2012.
