At its annual conference, held in Anaheim this month, the California School Public Relations Association (CalSPRA) honored the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) Communications Office for earning five statewide awards.
CalSPRA is a nationally recognized leader in school communications. Its annual Excellence in Communication competition recognizes outstanding achievement in communications and public relations for K-16 educational professionals and institutions throughout California. The competition provides participants a structured way to critique their own work during the entry process. All entrants receive valuable feedback from the judges—typically public relations peers from another state—even for entries that do not score high enough to win an award. Staff are able to benchmark the quality of their communications projects against entries from other organizations in California, plus get ideas and input from those who enter.
At the January 16 CalSPRA awards banquet, the SCOE Communications Office was awarded trophies for the following 2012–13 projects:
President's Choice Award
Award of Excellence
- Sacramento County Office of Education Website
- Student Expressions: 2013 Student Art Calendar
- SMUD Solar SunFlower Dedication Event at Palmiter Jr./Sr. High School

- Service Through Leadership: Superintendent's 2012-13 Year in Review Presentation to the Board
