Education took center court at Sleep Train Arena before thousands of cheering and supportive fans as Sacramento County District Teachers of the Year 2014 were honored Sunday, March 23, during the Sacramento Kings/Milwaukee Bucks game.
The two reigning Sacramento County Teachers of the Year, Deanna Victor (who teaches a 4th–5th grade combination class at Mariemont Elementary in San Juan U.S.D.) and Tim Smith (who teaches Math, Algebra I, and AP Statistics at Florin High School in Elk Grove U.S.D.), were among the fifteen honorees at center court.
Before the game, the Kings hosted honorees and their guests at a reception and lunch. The Teachers of the Year were then featured during a halftime ceremony at Sleep Train Arena. Katie Peterson, Community Relations Manager for the Sacramento Kings, and Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools David W. Gordon greeted the Teachers of the Year on the basketball court and presented them with awards.
The Sacramento County Teachers of the Year program is coordinated annually by the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) to recognize the achievements of local educators and to raise awareness of the valuable role that teachers play in the lives of their students and in the community. This year, the program is presented by SCOE in partnership with the Sacramento Kings, the Sacramento River Cats, Intel Corporation Folsom, and the Sacramento Scottish Rite Bodies of Freemasonry.
Mark Your Calendar: On Friday, April 25, 2014, the Sacramento River Cats will host a special Teacher Appreciation Night at Raley Field, sponsored by Intel Corporation.
