Students and staff from Elinor L. Hickey Jr./Sr. High School, Leo A. Palmiter Jr./Sr. High School, North Area Community School, and Boys & Girls Club LINKS Academy celebrated successes at the 20th Annual School-to-World Awards ceremony held May 31.
The School-to-World program is a partnership between the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) and area businesses. The joint venture offers students valuable entry-level job experience, connections with local business professionals, an opportunity for immediate use of newly acquired job skills, and an active way to learn social skills.
The School-to-World program provides the services, support system, and opportunities that most at-risk students need to be ready for college and/or the workforce. The Hickey and Palmiter campuses are operated by SCOE for students with specialized learning needs. Services are tailored to individual students based on their specific needs instead of through traditional, scripted education.
During the ceremony, students Aaliyha N. and Mahabir K. were presented with awards recognizing their outstanding achievements. The keynote speaker was Kelly Bernier-Mun, custodian, who was also recently selected as 2016 SCOE Classified Employee of the Year.
