David W. Gordon, Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools, is announcing two appointments to the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) leadership team.

Nancy Herota, Ed.D., has been named Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services. Dr. Herota most recently served as Director of SCOE's Early Learning Department. In her new capacity, she will oversee Early Learning, Curriculum and Development, Special Education, Foster Youth Services, Prevention and Early Intervention, and the Sly Park Conservation & Environmental Education Center.

Dr. Herota has extensive experience in educational leadership, early childhood education, and has served as Co-Director of the California Preschool Instructional Network (CPIN), a professional development system focused on professional development for preschool administrators and teaching staff. She obtained a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of California, Davis.

Andrea Lemos, Ed.D., has been named Executive Director of Special Education. She most recently has served as Director of Special Programs/Infant Development for SCOE. She earned a master’s degree in Early Childhood Risk and Prevention from Harvard University Graduate School of Education, and a doctorate in education from Saint Mary’s College of California.

Dr. Lemos succeeds Robin M. Pierson, Ed.D., who is retiring after leading SCOE’s Special Education department since 2002. Dr. Pierson began her education career at SCOE as a Language, Speech, and Hearing Specialist in August 1977.

“I am delighted that Nancy and Andrea are joining our SCOE leadership team. They are extremely talented and collaborative professionals who will help us to continue delivering top-quality services to our county’s 13 local school districts,” said Superintendent Gordon. “At the same time, we will greatly miss Robin Pierson. In the special education world, she has made a lasting impression on the lives of every student, parent, and guardian she has ever met.”
