2017 School-to-World Awards Honor Students

Businesses Also Recognized for Contributions to Workforce Preparation

Nathaniel C. was presented with the School-to-World Award by County Superintendent David Gordon, Board Trustee Heather Davis, and Principal Lauren Roth.

Students and staff from Elinor L. Hickey Jr./Sr. High School, Leo A. Palmiter Jr./Sr. High School, and North Area Community School celebrated successes at today’s 23rd Annual School-to-World Awards ceremony.

The School-to-World program is a partnership between the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) and area businesses. The joint venture offers students valuable entry-level job experience, connections with local business professionals, an opportunity for immediate use of newly acquired job skills, and an active way to learn social skills.

The program provides the services, support system and opportunities that most at-risk students need to be ready for college and/or the workforce. The participating campuses are operated by SCOE for students with specialized learning needs. Services are tailored to individual students based on their specific needs instead of through traditional, scripted education.

During the ceremony, two students received awards for outstanding achievement: Nathaniel C., School-to-World Award; and Cameron L., Culinary Arts/Chef’s Award.

Andrea Johnson of the Greater Sacramento Area Boys & Girls Club gave an inspirational speech to students on how to find, get, and keep a job.
