Students and their families received donated turkeys, traditional holiday side dishes, and pies today. Thanks to supportive school staff and several charitable organizations, nearly 70 students and their families from North Area Community School, a Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) program, received the Thanksgiving meals. School staff organized this 6th annual holiday food drive.

The donated meals were made possible thanks to the following:

  • Costco (Expo Parkway & Auburn Blvd.)
  • Davis Christian Assembly
  • Raley’s (Marconi Ave. & Natomas Blvd.)
  • Sacramento County Probation Department
  • SCOE Community Schools
  • Safeway (Del Paso Rd.)
  • Sam’s Club (El Camino Ave.)
  • Target (Madison Ave. & Fulton Ave.)
  • Tyrone Nguyen
  • Walmart (Antelope Rd., El Camino Ave., & Riverpoint Ct.)

The North Area Community School provides students an opportunity to continue their education and experience significant positive personal change in their lives. Although community school programs focus on academic success, the development of positive interpersonal skills and positive social interactions with peers and adults are important components of the school’s program.

Most of the students educated in the community schools have been referred by their local districts as a condition of being readmitted following their expulsion from school. A community school’s smaller environment and dedicated instructional and support staff also allow each student to benefit from a more personal learning experience.
