At its first-ever Teacher Appreciation Night, the Sacramento Republic FC (SRFC) honored district Teachers of the Year 2019 at Papa Murphy’s Park on Saturday, May 11.
During halftime, the teachers were recognized on the field and presented with keepsake jerseys, emblazoned with their last names. Joining the teachers on the field were Ben Gumpret, SRFC President and COO; Al Rogers, Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) Deputy Superintendent; and Karina Talamantes, Sacramento County Board of Education Trustee. Michael J. Steele (AP calculus teacher at Franklin High School, EGUSD), one of the two Sacramento County Teachers of the Year 2019, also had the honor of singing the national anthem.

The Sacramento County Teachers of the Year Program is coordinated annually by SCOE to recognize the achievements of local educators and to raise awareness of the valuable roles that teachers play in the lives of their students and in the community.
