David W. Gordon, Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools, is announcing two appointments to the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) leadership team.
Kristin Wright is the new Executive Director of Equity, Diversity, Early Intervention, and Support Services. Wright previously served as the California State Director of Special Education at the California Department of Education (CDE). Before CDE, she served as the Education Policy Advisor for Special Education, Homeless, and Foster Youth at the California State Board of Education and also as a member of the Legislative Staff at the California State Assembly. In addition to her experience in education, she also served as the Assistant Director at Volunteers of America, working with homeless programs in Sacramento County.
She has a bachelor’s degree in sociology, a special education teaching credential, and a master’s degree in special education, all from California State University, Sacramento.
Channa Cook-Harvey, Ph.D., is the new Executive Director of District and School Support. Cook-Harvey comes to SCOE from the Folsom Cordova Unified School District (FCUSD) where she served as the Director of Social-Emotional Learning. Before FCUSD, she served as the Senior Researcher for the Learning Policy Institute, a research institute affiliated with Stanford University led by the current State Board of Education President, Linda Darling-Hammond. She has also served as Principal/Co-Founder of the Sojourner Truth Academy in New Orleans, and as a teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District as an Instructional Literacy Coach.
Cook-Harvey holds a Ph.D. in Social Sciences, Humanities, and Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Race, Inequality, and Language in Education from Stanford University. She also holds a master’s degree in Administration and Educational Leadership, and a Master of Arts in Education in the Teaching of English.
