The 14-county SCOE 21CSLA regional academy is offering administrators three sequences of no-cost training for the 2021–22 school year. The deadline to register is August 23, 2021.

According to the U.S. Department of Education Institute for Education Statistics, population increases are leading to an increased demand for elementary, middle, and high school principals. School leaders are retiring, transferring schools, or pursuing other opportunities. As a result, many school districts report school leadership vacancies and are looking to find qualified applicants.

To help fill the need for strong school leaders, the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is serving as the 14-county regional leader for the statewide 21st Century California School Leadership Academy program. The regional program, called SCOE 21CSLA, is one of seven academies across the state tasked with supporting and enhancing the knowledge, skills, and capacity of education leaders.

The California Department of Education (CDE), the California Collaborative for Educational Excellence (CCEE), and the State Board of Education (SBE) awarded more than $5 million in funding to the SCOE School of Education to support ongoing, high-level leadership training through the new program. It serves central office leaders, site leaders, and teacher leaders across the Placer-Sacramento region.

2021–22 Professional Learning Opportunities

Three unique professional learning opportunities are being offered, focused on building the leadership capacity of educators:

  • Professional Learning Modules
  • Communities of Practice
  • Individualized Leadership Coaching

Designed to develop skills and behaviors that meet the needs of all students and create equitable outcomes, the courses are provided at no cost to eligible participants from the Placer-Sacramento region.

Information about the training opportunities is being distributed to county offices of education, school districts, and educators throughout the region. The deadline to apply is August 23, 2021. The three Professional Learning opportunities run from September 2021 through May 2022. Participants may apply for any—or all—of the three opportunities.
