Arts education helps students develop creative problem-solving skills and reaches students who might otherwise struggle with their classwork. Nationally recognized artist and activist Milton Bowens has partnered with the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) to help keep students engaged and inspired through conversations about art, history, and current events.

Bowens is helping SCOE students learn to better express themselves and find ways to integrate art into their daily lives. He teaches them communication skills and how to share their voices through his philosophy: “Art For Education, Not Just Decoration.” He says his goal is to “keep art a vital part of public education and a tool to help rebuild self-esteem in youth.”
