Twelve young adult students from five sites received certificates of completion from the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) Foundations Academy in ceremonies held May 17 and 18. The SCOE Special Education Department operates the Foundations Academy, serving ages three to 22. The program provides education services to students who require extensive visual, mobility, and speech/language support. Many of the students who complete the program start in SCOE’s Infant Development Program and continue in the Foundations Academy through young adulthood.
During the ceremonies, which were held at the SCOE Conference Center, Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools David W. Gordon addressed the students and their families. “It will be very difficult for our staff to let go and bid farewell to your students. The journey they have taken together has been filled with endless and unconditional devotion,” he said. “Your support and extraordinary inner strength have guided each student through every obstacle life has presented.”
SCOE’s Special Education Department provides services in more than 30 classrooms at over 20 sites across local school districts. It also provides services at El Centro Jr./Sr. High School (SCOE’s Juvenile Court School).
