Baseball fans at Sutter Health Park cheered during a pre-game ceremony on Sunday as the Sacramento River Cats paid tribute to employees who had been selected as 2023 Sacramento County Classified School Employees of the Year. One of the honorees, Troygah Ahmach from Twin Rivers USD, was also chosen to throw a ceremonial first pitch.

Following the on-field ceremony, SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union sponsored a lunch reception for honorees and their guests. The Classified Employees of the Year also received custom-embroidered River Cats caps. Joining SchoolsFirst Senior Vice President Steve Langley and Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools David W. Gordon in recognizing the education employees were Sacramento County Board of Education President Paul Keefer and Trustees Heather Davis and Mariana Corona Sabeniano.

The Classified School Employees of the Year were selected based on their work performance, leadership, dedication, and involvement with their schools and communities. Classified staff are vital to ensuring that daily education operations run smoothly, efficiently, and effectively. These experts often work behind the scenes as they provide administrative, technical, and operational support—frequently with years of knowledge and experience.

SCOE has been fortunate to partner with the River Cats for many years on the organization’s efforts to recognize and support education. The team recently recognized the District Teachers of the Year 2023 and also hosted SCOE students as part of its “AAA School Day” game in May.
