The Sacramento County Board of Education selected new officers at its July 11 meeting. The Board chose Trustee Bina Lefkovitz (Area 1) as President. Lefkovitz is a retired educational consultant and retired adjunct faculty member at California State University, Sacramento. She currently serves as an alternate on the Sacramento Library Board, is a member of the California Youth Apprenticeship Advisory Board, and is a Court Appointed Special Advocate for foster youth. Trustee O. Alfred Brown, Sr. (Area 5), was selected as Vice President. Dr. Brown is a Professor Emeritus of Law at Sacramento State.
The offices of Board President and Vice President are held for one year. Trustees are elected for terms of four years.
The Board will continue to hold its regular meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m.
About the County Board of Education
The Sacramento County Board of Education derives its power and authority from the State Constitution (Article IX § 3.3) and the laws of the State of California. The County Board consists of seven elected members, each serving four-year terms. The Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools serves as secretary to the Board of Education. In addition to conducting its regular business, other Board responsibilities include hearing student expulsion appeals and interdistrict transfer appeals.
