The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is encouraging teachers across the county to participate in the annual Sacramento County History Day and National History Day–California. The annual educational programs offer an incredible opportunity for students to delve into the rich tapestry of history. History Day makes history “come alive” for students by engaging them in discovering the historical, cultural, and social significance of the past.
The project-based competitions are associated with National History Day, a year-long educational program that encourages elementary, middle, and high school students to explore local, state, national, and world history. At each competition level (local, county, state, and national), student projects are evaluated by history experts and educators. Local competition divisions include Elementary (grades 4–5), Junior (grades 6–8), and Senior (grades 9–12).
This year’s Sacramento History Day Competition will take place on Saturday, March 2, 2024. The National History Day—California contest is scheduled for April 19–21, 2024.
