Sacramento County educators took to the court at the Golden 1 Center on Tuesday as thousands of fans cheered for the District Teachers of the Year 2024 during halftime of the Sacramento Kings/Milwaukee Bucks game. The “Salute to Educators” was an exciting opportunity for the top teachers to be recognized for their hard work, dedication, and achievements—and for the community to publicly celebrate Sacramento’s top teachers.
Sacramento County Board of Education Vice President O. Alfred Brown, Sr., and Trustees Joanne Ahola, Mariana Corona Sabeniano, and Heather Davis were on hand to congratulate the honorees. County Superintendent of Schools David W. Gordon joined the teachers in an exclusive, on-court recognition where they were introduced to the crowd. Each teacher was presented with a personalized Kings jersey, emblazoned with their name and the number “24” (representing the year they were honored).
The teachers also received gift bags from Jamba, the event sponsor, with one lucky teacher returning to the court for a timed opportunity to make three baskets. Lyndsay Hall (the District Teacher of the Year from Robla School District) made all three shots, earning herself Jamba smoothies for a year, plus a free smoothie for everyone attending the game! Prior to tip-off, the honorees were also treated to a reception at the Sierra Nevada Draught House, followed by a behind-the-scenes tour of the arena.
The Teachers of the Year received tickets to the game as part of the Sacramento Kings Foundation’s “Impact” series, meant to create awareness and positive change in the community. The Sacramento Kings have generously partnered with SCOE to recognize the Teachers of the Year with a halftime ceremony every year since 1992.
