Students: Register for 2024 Seal of Biliteracy Ceremony

SCOE to Recognize Competency in World Languages

California State Seal of Biliteracy for Eligible Graduating High School Seniors

The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) will host its annual recognition ceremony for State Seal of Biliteracy recipients on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. The Seal of Biliteracy is awarded to seniors who have demonstrated English competency, plus competency in another language by meeting specific criteria. Students who participate in the program report that they have gained a greater appreciation for other cultures, developing a deeper understanding of the world around them. Seal of Biliteracy eligibility details are available online.

SCOE collaborates with more than 20 school districts and independent charter schools to honor high school seniors who earn the distinction each year. The recognition ceremony is attended by school administrators, teachers, parents, and members of the community—all coming together to celebrate the outstanding students who have demonstrated proficiency in English, plus one or more world languages.

Registration Details

Seniors from public high schools in Sacramento County who have qualified to receive the Seal of Biliteracy are invited to participate. Students should contact their district Seal of Biliteracy coordinator or their principal for application deadlines and to RSVP for the ceremony. Seating capacity is limited, and tickets are issued on a first-come, first-served basis (one guest per student). Event details will be provided to those who RSVP.

The Sacramento Educational Cable Consortium (SECC), which provides educational programming via local cable television, will be recording the ceremony for later playback on local cable channels. A live video feed on SCOE’s YouTube channel (www.scoe.net/live) will also allow additional family and friends to enjoy the ceremony remotely.
