Performers from Foothill Ranch Middle School and Mills Middle School tied for first place.

The annual Club Live Countywide Lip Sync Competition electrified The Sofia (home of B Street Theatre) in downtown Sacramento on April 12. Coordinated by the Prevention and Early Intervention Department at the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE), the event featured 25 students from 10 middle schools. The young performers delivered dynamic lip-sync and dance routines, breathing new life into classic hits and contemporary chart-toppers.

“It’s incredible to watch the students shine,” said Coordinator Joelle Orrock. “It’s all about skill-building in disguise. The competition teaches the students how to plan and prepare, work in a team environment, and perform in front of a large crowd. This is such a valuable experience.”

Established in 1991, Club Live is an extension of Friday Night Live that is designed for middle school students. It helps build leadership skills, provides opportunities for community engagement, and works to prevent alcohol and drug use among teenagers. Activities encourage social engagement among youth, enabling them to actively participate with their peers and effect positive change in their communities. SCOE staff members provide support for Club Live chapters, including community service opportunities, student and advisor training, and special events like the Lip Sync Competition.
