County Board of Education Selects 2024–25 Officers

Newly Elected Trustee Welcomed, Re-Elected Incumbents Sworn In

Trustees Al Brown and Mariana Corona Sabeniano will serve as Board President and Vice President for 2024–25.

The Sacramento County Board of Education selected new officers at its meeting yesterday. O. Alfred Brown, Sr. (Area 5 Trustee) will be Board President and Mariana Corona Sabeniano (Area 2 Trustee) will be Board Vice President.

Three incumbent trustees were re-elected and sworn into office at the meeting. O. Alfred Brown, Sr., took the oath of office alongside Heather Davis (Area 6 Trustee) and Harold Fong, MSW (Area 7 Trustee). They will serve four-year terms ending in 2028.

The Board also welcomed newly elected trustee Vanessa D. Caigoy, MBA (Area 4), who was sworn in last week. Caigoy is the Managing Director of the California Charter Schools Association. She has a Bachelor of Science in accounting from California Baptist University and a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in international finance from Drexel University. She will also serve a four-year term.

About the County Board of Education

The Sacramento County Board of Education derives its authority from the State Constitution (Article IX § 3.3) and the laws of the State of California. The County Board consists of seven elected members. The offices of Board President and Vice President are held for one year. The Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools serves as secretary to the Board of Education. In addition to conducting its regular business, other Board responsibilities include hearing student expulsion appeals and interdistrict transfer appeals.

Trustees serve four-year terms. Those elected and re-elected this year will serve terms ending in 2028.
