The dedicated staff at Leo A. Palmiter Jr./Sr. High School kicked off the new academic year in style at its annual Back-to-School Night on September 4. The lively event drew a large crowd of energized students, their families, Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) administrators, and Sacramento County Board of Education trustees, all gathering to celebrate the start of another promising year.

The evening began with a delicious meal, prepared by students from the school’s celebrated Culinary Arts program. Guests were treated to a mouthwatering taco bar, brimming with protein options and tasty toppings including refried beans, salsa, guacamole, and cookies for dessert.

Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools David W. Gordon addressed the enthusiastic audience, expressing deep appreciation for a strong partnership with parents. “Your involvement is crucial, and we deeply value the collaboration in supporting your child’s growth and success,” he remarked, acknowledging the role families play in their child’s educational journey.

Principal Lauren Roth also spoke, highlighting key upcoming events and outlining the school’s vision for the year, which focuses on developing resiliency skills and encouraging students to become self-advocates. Exciting school activities lie ahead, including Student Council initiatives to promote California High School Voter Education Weeks (September 16–27). In addition, students will organize a Presidential Mock Election on October 1, encouraging civic engagement and fostering a sense of community involvement.

After the meal and inspiring presentations in the school’s multipurpose room, eager students, families, staff, and Board trustees fanned out across campus, stopping in classrooms to meet teachers and explore the school’s dynamic educational offerings. Highlights included the Culinary Arts program and the Horticulture program, both designed to spark a passion for learning and offer hands-on experiences that inspire curiosity and nurture a love of learning in every student.

The night was a memorable celebration of community, education, and the promise of a year filled with learning, growth, and success.
