Social and emotional learning (SEL)—the process of developing and learning to use social and emotional competencies in equitable, supportive environments—is rooted in the belief that when students feel safe, seen, connected, and valued, they experience a more profound sense of belonging and academic success. Foundational SEL competencies help students show empathy for others, maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible, caring decisions. This helps increase engagement and ultimately leads to greater wellness and life success.
To provide educators with information about the growth opportunities SEL offers and ways they can reinforce these important capacities, the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is hosting the 2025 California SEL & Wellness Summit—May 15 and 16, 2025. Educators from across the state are invited to attend the in-person event at the SAFE Credit Union Convention Center in Sacramento.
Through engaging workshops, inspiring speakers, and experiential social and emotional learning elements, the event will highlight how relationships drive transformative change in education. The theme is “Relationship-Centered Schools,” and the focus will be on creating school environments where students and educators feel respected, valued, and supported—essential for equitable learning. Youth voices and performances will play a key role in the summit, demonstrating firsthand how relationship building positively impacts school communities.
SCOE is hosting the two-day summit in partnership with the CalHOPE SEL Community of Practice, a statewide effort to build the capacity to implement and prioritize social and emotional learning.
