Sacramento County educators took to the court at the Golden 1 Center on Monday as thousands of fans cheered for the District Teachers of the Year 2025 during halftime of the Sacramento Kings/Memphis Grizzlies game. The “Salute to Educators” was an exciting opportunity for the area’s top teachers to be recognized for their hard work, dedication, and achievements—and for the community to publicly celebrate them.
Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools David W. Gordon joined the teachers in an exclusive, on-court recognition where they were introduced to the crowd. Each teacher was presented with a personalized Kings jersey, emblazoned with their name and the number “25” (representing the year they were honored). Sacramento County Board of Education Trustee Vanessa D. Caigoy, MBA, helped congratulate the honorees.
The teachers received gift bags from Jamba, the event sponsor. Prior to tip-off, the honorees were also treated to a reception at the Sierra Nevada Draught House. Sacramento County Teachers of the Year 2025 Joshua Weeks (Robla School District) and Marc Vankeuren, Ph.D. (Twin Rivers Unified School District) served as honorary co-captains, meeting players and coaches on the court before the game.
The Sacramento Kings have generously partnered with SCOE to recognize the Teachers of the Year with a halftime ceremony every year since 1992.
