The Sacramento County Board of Education will make a provisional appointment to fill a vacancy for Trustee Area 5. By statute, unless an election petition is filed under Education Code § 5091, the person appointed to fill the vacancy shall hold office until the next regularly scheduled Board election in June 2014.
The Board will consider applications, interview candidates, and make a provisional appointment at its meeting on August 20, 2013. The public is encouraged to attend and provide comment and input prior to the selection.
Area 5 represents the following communities: Alder Creek, Bridge House, Folsom, Gold River, Mather, Mills, Natoma, Nimbus, Rancho Cordova, Rancho Murieta, Rosemont, Sloughhouse, Walsh Station, and a portion of Vineyard. This area represents the following school districts: small portions of Elk Grove Unified, Sacramento City Unified, and San Juan Unified, and all of Folsom Cordova Unified.
Applications for the vacant Trustee Area 5 seat will be accepted during regular business hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and must be received—not postmarked—by 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2013. Applications should be submitted to the President of the Sacramento County Board of Education either in person at the David P. Meaney Education Center, 10474 Mather Boulevard, Mather, CA, or by mail to P.O. Box 269003, Sacramento, CA 95826.
The application must include a letter of interest of no more than two pages, a résumé, and no more than three letters of recommendation.
