County superintendents annually inspect Williams schools—the schools are identified based on the following criteria:

  • Schools eligible for Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA); or
  • Schools eligible for Additional Targeted Support and Improvement (ATSI) under ESSA; or
  • Schools with 15 percent or more of the school’s teachers that do not possess a valid and clear or preliminary teaching credential.

Schools that have a Dashboard Alternative School Status (DASS) are excluded from the Williams list.

During these inspections, the county superintendent determines: (1) if there are sufficient textbooks for all students, (2) whether the facilities are in good repair or if there are any emergency repairs needed, and (3) if the data reported to the parents and the community on the School Accountability Report Card (SARC) is accurate.

There are specific remedies and procedures that must be followed in the event that any problems are discovered during these inspections. The county superintendent will work closely with the school district to develop a plan to remedy any insufficiencies in textbooks and the state has provided an Emergency Repairs Grant Program to assist schools in meeting any emergency repair needs.
